I enjoy both, primarily as middle names, but I'd have to give the edge to Leonidas due to sound and association. I've actually got an Archibald Leonidas among my late kin. I think Leopold might be generally considered more usable. Don't think I've tried pairing either one as first names; please forgive any repeats...Leonidas Abram
Leonidas Andre
Leonidas Arthur
Leonidas Bertram
Leonidas Bram
Leonidas Eamon
Leonidas Edmund
Leonidas Everett
Leonidas Gabriel
Leonidas Graham (GRAY-um)
Leonidas Henry
Leonidas Hugo
Leonidas Irwin
Leonidas Jethro
Leonidas Malcolm
Leonidas Martin
Leonidas Paul
Leonidas Redmond
Leonidas Rolf
Leonidas Ruarc
Leonidas Willem Leopold Alastair

I like Leonidas Henry, Leonidas Arthur, Leonidas Edmund and Leonidas Eamon and Leopold Marius (I was actually considering Marius in the middle in honor of my grandmother Mary) and Leopold Benjamin was also on my list. Thanks!

I like both, but Leopold is more fun, more quirky and, if it's possible, also far more down-to-earth / less frilly.

LeonidasI think Leonidas seems heroic, while Leopold seems sort of overrefined and pasty.

I agree. Leopold is very stuffy while I think of a warrior king when I hear Leonidas.

Leonidas has the best namesake but I fear the name would be "too much" outside of Greece. So my vote is for Leopold.

Leonidas is just a bit much for me, so I'd pick Leopold. How about Leonas or Kaleo?

I truthfully love both, these are my favorite male Leo names. I was pondering just two nights ago which I preferred and I came to the conclusion that I slightly prefer Leonidas, which is not surprising since I like so many names that end in -as or -us., I find the sound to be strong and manly but also refined and regal.Leopold is definitely a cool name, I don't know of many names that end in -pold or -old, Leopold also sounds strong and manly and refined and regal. As much as Leopold seems more unique I such slightly prefer the ending sound of Leonidas.

I love them both, but I think I prefer Leopold.
I do love the Greek Mythology association with Leonidas, but right now I'm in a phase where I feel names associated with different myths are a bit too heavy. But they're both great options, and way better than Leonard.
