Help[Opinions] Shiri and Shira
What are your thoughts on Shiri and Shira and which do you prefer? Do you think they'd sound too out of place on a non-Israeli?

I personally don't care for either, but they aren't horrible. I think Shira would work better in the US-- Since it's not familiar, Shiri may come across as a pretentious or butchered Sherry.

Shira is very cute. I think the stress is on the second syllable in Hebrew (that's what Wiktionary says at least), but SHEER-a is more intuitive for an English speaker.
Also, I think Shiri means buttocks in Japanese... Just thought I'd point it out. I remember there was a whole hoohah about the Apple Siri in Japan. Siri is Shiri (bum) in Japanese pronunciation.

I really, really hate them. I'm so sorry. It's a real knee-jerk reaction, I can't justify it or explain it, but I haaate them. Irrationally so.
Shiri is the less English, therefore it is the least offensive, but it still produces this horrible gut reaction.
Argh.

Blargh, I mean, I don't want to offend, I really don't. Three months down the line, I might love them, I might not, and either way they're probably lovely names that lots of other people like and you have your right to love... but they make me queasy. I have no idea why.
But ignore me, cos I'm probably the one person in a million who hates them.

Is Shira pronounced SHY-ra or SHEER-ah? I think the name is beautiful pronounced both ways but I'm curious as to what is the correct way. The names also have a nice meanings. Beautifuly exotic.

Essentially. They sound more like SHEER-ee and SHEER-ə when I say them, probably because of my accent. Fully enunciating that SHEE before making the R feels like it takes some extra effort on my part, and my tongue's far too lazy.

I prefer Shira, though both have gorgeous meanings, I'm just naturally drawn the sound of a name ending with "a" if I am given the option. Yes I do think they would sound out of place to begin with, but people would get over it. And who am I to judge, I love Kimiko and Caoimhe, and I'm fully English. :)
