I prefer Tobias. It sounds stronger and more masculine. It's also less expected these days where I live.

I love Tobias. I think it's a great underused biblical gem. Classic and kind of clunky in a good way, with a great nickname to boot. Tristan is just too soft and simpering for my liking, much like Julian. Plus, it reminds me of crackers.

Tristan by a long shot. I rather like it. Tobias just sounds old and fusty to me, regardless of the nickname Toby which is cute for a kid but kind of insubstantial.

I think Tobias is wonderful. I'm going to name my first son this, no arguments.
Tristan isn't my cup of tea, I think it has an odd sound which i often find hard to pronounce correctly.
Needless to say my preffered of the two is Tobias! :)

Tristan
Since Tobias is ugly and boring, and also reminds me of my cousin's boyfriend who is a complete jerk.

I like both. I prefer Tobias because I love the nickname Toby, and there aren't any nicknames for Tristan. also Tristan seems a wee bit trendy because there are many similar names in fashion at the moment.

I prefer Tristan, but not enough to use. And I prefer Toby to Tobias.

Tristan is quite nice. Tobias is a weird one for me because the full name seems too stuffy while the nick Toby is too juvenile.

I prefer Tristan.Tobias is a nice enough name, but it doesn't really do a whole lot for me.Tristan grew on me a lot. I used to find it whiny, but now I think it's swell.

Tobias: an old man who wears itchy sweaters and leers at his stepdaughter. Tristan: a preppy blonde boy with Daddy issues and a disregard for other people's feelings. If I had to choose, Tristan. Tobias is so stodgy.

I'd go for Tristan. Tobias seems like an over-elaboration of the much friendlier Toby, and I'm not keen on the sound.

I like them both but I prefer Tobias by a long way.:0)

Tobias is such a great name and I love the nickname toby. I personally do not like the name Tristan because to me its a feminine name and when I was younger I knew a girl with that name and she was very unpleasant.

Definitely prefer Tristan. It's handsome but soft and not overly 'macho', it has a medieval vibe but is completely usable on a modern person, and I think it ages well. I like the "Tr" and "st" sounds together as well.
Tobias isn't bad, but I'm not a fan of Toby or the "bias" sound. Also it has a sort of 'schoolboy' vibe IMO, which I don't like.
Basically Tristan gives me the image of someone who'd very good-looking but humble and and soft-spoken, while in comparison Tobias sounds like he would be more of a boastful person with nothing to back up his claims.
