I've got no grandmaternal associations whatsoever! Though I am aware of baby-milk formula.
Once I knew a Nan whose full name was Nancy. She found this too frilly and lacking in adult vibes, so changed happily to Nan.
Me, I prefer either Anne or Nancy.
