On a young person I'd think "Good grief, is that the best you/your parents could do?" On an older person I'd think "You're not my grandmother but whatever makes you happy."
It wasn't what I called my own grandmother but yes, it does make me think of grandmothers. My daughter calls her grandmothers Nana Charlene and Nana Lorraine.
I think Anne or Nancy or Nanette or whatever else it's short for is much better than Nan.
