[Opinions] Japonica
One of my GPs is the flower name Japonica. I found it by chance when looking for something else in a dictionary and I thought it was such a beautiful word! Do you think it could be used as a name? It ends like Monica and Veronica, so I don't think it's TOO weird...

No. Just...no.
No, it's too much like "Japan".
Like it for a fictional character, but not on an actual person.
I'd written a series of stories about an eccentric town. Japonica was married to the uncle of the main character (the uncle's name was Duke).

It sounds very much like a random amalgum of syllables to me and I don't really like them. I wasn't familiar with the plant so that association didn't come through at all.
However, it's a GP so ANYTHING goes :D

I looked it up on Wikipedia, and my initial thought seems to be right. It sounds too much like the Japanese version of Americana. It doesn't sound too weird, but it's not a name imo.

Yep, my first thought "Doesn't that mean things related to Japan?". It's a no for me, great name for a fantasy character though.
