Out of interest, are there other BAs of non-Welsh names in the same paper? Just wondering what the balance is like between people who use Welsh names compared with others. Or are you in a very Welsh-speaking area?
Can you remind me how to pronounce Osian? We've just got someone of that name who's started at my company (not in my office but the Cardiff one) and it would be useful to know how to say it properly!
There's nothing in the BA list which grabs me but I do like Anwen, Rhiannon, Rhian and Nia.

I do usually leave out the entirely English ones, but there was only one birth notice in English with solely English names this month - all the others were in Welsh, and are as listed. Yup, these are from Gwynedd, the most Welsh-speaking county in Wales. I would love to see the Welsh births in the yearly National Stats data broken down by county! The national top 10s had only one Welsh name apiece, which is sad. (Seren and Dylan). I did a breakdown of the others here, if you're interested:

Thanks, I did read your previous posts, interesting to have another look at the lists. And thanks for the pronunciation! We have a few Welsh and Scottish Gaelic named colleagues and it causes a bit of confusion for those of us not familiar with them!

I love Gwion and I've been oddly fascinated by Gwenno for a while now. I'm not sure how I feel about them as a sibset, though. I'd probably mix them up all the time.
By the way, what does Prys mean?
Is Eila a "real" Welsh name? If so, what does it mean? Oh, and how would it be pronounced? ;)
And what does Esmor mean?

Prys developed from 'ap Rhys' meaning 'son of Rhys' and is mainly a surname; it's also a word meaning 'wood'

I have no idea what Esmor means - sorry! It's very unusual and seems to have occurred mostly in North-east Wales, where there's a village called Rhosesmor ('Esmor Heath'), so probably derived from the place-name.

I notice Aur used as a middle name in there a couple times. What's the story behind that little name?

It means 'gold' and it's pronounced (roughly) eye-er. I've only ever seen it as a middle name, and I think it's also quite a recent name.
