[Opinions] How would YOU pronounce Nici?
My mate Nicole is trying to decide how she wants to spell her nn. If you saw Nici written down how would you pronounce it? Which spelling do you like best of Nikki? (Nikki, Nikky, Nicky, Nicki, Nicy, Nici, Nicci, Niccy). Do you think when people see Nici they will pronounce it Nice-ee? And now thinking about it do you think Nicci would be better? (as in no mispronounciations).

Well, in Italian two c's together is pronounced "ch" so Nicci would be pronounced "Nichee." When I first saw Nici I pronounced it "Nee-see." Then I thought, "Maybe it's 'Nih-see?" I like Nikki or Niki -- they have some spunk and are pronounced just as they look -- no second guessing. Any spelling with just the c's and no k's following them (i.e. Nicy, Nici, Nicci, Niccy) all just look like "Nee-see" to me.

Nici doesn't look like it's pronounced the same way as Nikki. It looks like NEE-see or NEE-chee. Something like Nikki or Nickie would be much better.

I think Nikki would probably be best, as it's the most common spelling. Or if she must, perhaps Nicky, Nicki, Nickie, or Niki. But Nici looks like NEE-see or NYE-see (or even NEE-chee) to me. :-/~Heather~

In the traditional rules of English spelling, a "c" followed by an "i" (or an e or y) is pronounced as "s". So many people will indeed look at Nici and pronounce it as Neesee or Nissy or Nicey. There also may be some people who will assume it's foreign and go for the "Neechee" pronunciation. In any event, Nici is not a good respelling for Nicki or Nikki.

There is an author who spells it Nicci. For a girl I prefer Nicki._____________________________________________________________________Elinor

Nicci would be much better I think. I would prob guess Nici was trying to be pronounced Nicky but I would be unsure. By rights it should be Nee-cee, if we're following English grammar rules.

I would either say Nicky or NEE-see. I think she should just go with Niki or Nikki.

I'd pronounce it NEE-see, like the place and the "Nice" (NEES) variety of biscuits.Nikki is by far the best spelling, and it's the one she'll get 99% of the time anyway.
