I think Eli is a great name. That was one of my suggestions for our DS's mn, but we went with Emmanuel instead and we now have a gorgeous nephew named Eli, who just turned one year old. A strong, yet simple name that seems to be gaining some favour here in Australia. I do still prefer Elijah "Eli" though. As for whether it could work to honour an Elizabeth, well why not I say. It's not like the name Eli isn't in Elizabeth, so I see the reasoning behind it.
