[Opinions] Naveah!!
I am looking forward to naming my soon to be born daughter Naveah. I love the idea of the Heaven spelled backwards but personally prefer the alternate spelling for my daughter. I will not base my opinion on a trend, a porn star an anti-heaven opinion or a rude comment that should be taken off this board anyway as it is not a way to treat or speak to other people. Such a lack of respect towards your fellow man, and to be honest I would not want any association with people who behave or speak of others choices in this manner. you become who you hang around with. wow. which is why I don't usually comment or make my decision based on google opinions. .But this I couldn't help myself. It seems to be where all the negative people who just want to bring other people down to lift themselves up seem to hang out. So I will be gone after this post. Anyway..I love the name because I think it is beautiful and really encourage you to name your child what feels right to you. This feels right to me and I am sticking to it. The way I pick a name is not by what society has deemed normal or acceptable or necessarily because of history. I pick it because I like it and it feels right to say it for my little one. I think it makes a beautiful and poetic adult name and I love the nickname Vea. If you don't like it..don't pick it. Period!
And I am very Christian but did not pick this name because of the meaning people have given it. I picked it cuz I liked it. Your name does not make you who you are. It is a beautiful way to identify yourself..but your attitude and your heart makes you who you are in gods eyes. Remember that:)
Prayers for those who do not see what they are doing by feeding negativity into others hearts.
:)

Nevaeh continues to be a name that I primarily associate with tragedy. A lot of people name their stillborn babies or babies who die shortly after birth Nevaeh. As well, several years ago, it was coming up repeatedly on the news, children named Nevaeh who were otherwise healthy children dying horribly (see Nevaeh Richardson, Nevaeh Buchanan, Nevaeh Gallagos, etc). [The first two are from the Detroit area so they were on the news constantly at the time].
Also I just think the pronunciation is counterintuitive and the spelling is ugly.
Also it is a trend so I don't know what you mean by "I will not base my opinion on a trend"-- if you were picking a name 15 years ago, you probably would have never considered it.

I agreeI've added to the list of "tragedy" names:Heaven
Angel
Precious
Journey
Miracle
Serenity
Zion
Destiny
ZenAlso, why are most of the names feminine? Most boys I meet with tragic beginnings are almost always given normal names.

There was a case a couple years ago (actually it was in the news for years before it was resolved and it hasn't truly ever been resolved) where a woman in Florida was charged with killing her foster daughter, though no body was ever found. The kid's name was Rilya, which her mother said stood for "Remember I love you always."
This mother had never been involved in her child's life, had lost custody or given up custody of all her children, and apparently had left Rilya with this woman, whose daughter she met in rehad and never kept in touch with them. Child's name should have been Ilcemty, for I love crack even more than you.I agree with you and have found that oftentimes, or at least often enough to be noted, really bad parents seem to think that giving their baby a "meaningful" or "loving" name is all they have to do, and will prove to others that they really are loving parents. As for boys with this style of name, I have read or heard about died-young-by-their-parents'-hand named Rainbow Lord, Miraculous in a couple different spellings, Sincere Understanding and Supreme Knowledge, (mother threw these two off a bridge, one survived and the other didn't) Zion, Praise, (saw this on a dead girl too, spelled funny) and Trustin.

I swear Nevaeh is a cursed name.

Um okay + a moderator questionI think you're in the wrong place. Have you tried just going to the page for 'Neveah' and clicking 'contribute'. I'm guessing that's where all this "negativity" is, I imagine. Has anyone ever talked to Mike about having a 'contribute' or 'comment' button on the page where the name comments are? It seems like this happens pretty often that someone gets all riled up at the comments and then comes to this board to rant back at "us".
vote up1
Gosh yes, that is a good idea. So, are you going to PM Mike? or are you punting and I'm going to do it? =)
vote up1
I'll try. I'm never PMed him before. Let's see if I can figure this out.

Doneand Mike thinks it's a good idea. It'll be a couple weeks though.

I'm not convinced that "Contribute" or "Comment" would be clear enough. The button should say, "Press here if you're mad about some of the comments but get it through your thick head first that it's very unlikely that anyone who pissed you off will see your response."

Maybe we could abbreviate that so it fits on a button....PHIYMASOTCBGITYTHFTIVUTAWPYOWSYR?

LOL.Actually, this inspired me to look at the comments for Nevaeh, which I had never done before, and I discovered that the only other name that I've seen that inspired as many comments, as many extremely negative comments, and as much heated debate as Nevaeh is Madison. And surprise, lucyonly left the identical message in the comments section for Nevaeh that she did here. So it wasn't a matter of not being able to figure out how to do it.To lucyonly: The people who left the comments are not, for the most part, the same people who frequent this board. Many of the comments were left years ago by people who come on the site for a short time, maybe only one day, and then leave. This board is designed for give-and-take and the comments section is not. The comments stay forever and here on the opinions board, posts get pushed down into the archives. This opinions board is frequented by regulars, and the comments section is designed for a one-time comment. The comments section and the opinion board have different purposes. It's very unlikely than anyone who left a negative comment about Nevaeh in the comments section will see your response there, but it's even more unlikely that they would here. It wasn't appropriate to re-post your comment here.

Holy CrapI followed the link to read the comments and Nevaeh has made it to #39 on the popularity chart??? What what what. And people still think its unique :|Also, I had to laugh at the whole "the way to undo God's creation is to speak His name backwards" thing. Clearly this is why there are so many things wrong in this world- people keep saying dog.
Lots of crazy in that comments thread.

First, I'm sorry if anyone has personally insulted you or your intelligence based on your name choice. No argument should ever come to that.Second, well, I can't say I applaud your name choice. Whenever someone asks me what they consider a "teen-mom" name, or my least favorite name, Nevaeh is the name that automatically comes to mind. I'm just not sure where the appeal lies. I, personally and solely my opinion, think the name sounds juvenile and extremely unappealing. I'm not sure what the message of "Heaven-spelled-backwards" is supposed to be, either. If you like Heaven, then find a name with that or similar meaning. Or maybe name her Heaven, which I also think, as a name, is infantile in sound, but is still miles above Nevaeh. And, the misspelling of an already strange name is kind of odd, in my opinion. It's been stripped of what little meaning it's possessed. Please know that I am in no way trying to tear you or your opinions down. I'm just sharing mine, and since you said it won't have any bearing on what you choose, then it really won't matter in the end anyway. Good luck and God bless to you and yours.

actually, I am getting into this nameWell, the classic Nevaeh, that is. It seems like the perfect name for a modern-day Rosemary's Baby type satanic cult baby. Backwards names are sooo retro black magic. I love it.

We here love names and have a serious interest in them. We found this site and became members because it treats names as serious subject matter. We frequent this message board because we enjoy giving opinions on names in an atmosphere in which, unlike most situations in real life and some other name sites, we are free to give any and all opinions and don't feel constrained by the fear of hurting anyone's feelings. We here all understand that because of the aforementioned, when we ask for an opinion, it might be negative, and we understand that here there is no place for hurt feelings because of it. Of course, that does require a level of maturity. But because you, as a Christian, think that this denotes a "lack of respect", and we're "negative people who just want to bring other people down to lift themselves up" and we "feed negativity into others hearts", I suppose we are all now to follow your rules and either abandon this board or change its purpose entirely. How dare you? I'm glad you're gone after this post. Don't let the back door hit you where the Good Lord split you.

....errrrm....If you want to name your kid an ugly name, ( be it Navaeh or Naeveah, Neveah, Nevvveaghg, Navaleah, etc, etc) it's no skin off my nose. Do whatever you want. It'll give 'negative' people like us something to take the piss out of, and people with hyper-common or rather odd names (the quintessential Avas and, eh, I dunno, Desdemonas, of the world) will be able to sit back and go 'Well, at least mum didn't name me Naveah!'. Apart from that, nobody really cares.Since you didn't come to ask opinions or start a discussion about the name, but to preach your opinion, this topic is completely pointless. I mean, why bother posting this? Who cares? You're getting your panties in a twist and coming off as an obnoxious person or transparent troll whilst including some weird lecture about 'negativity' and it's all pretty bizarre and ranty and, yeah, pointless. I wish I'd never read your comments. It's time and brain-cells I'll never get back.Anyway, I can sum up my sentiments about your bizarre little rant in one word - 'ew'. Just. Ew. PS: Please name your child Navaleah. Do it.

Ohh, I'm gonna use Nevvveaghg!Sooo pretty!(Not)

Remember to tell people thatthe 'g's are silent! It'll make you sound really edgy, worldly and cool (and not at all like a bit of a prat).

Nev8iyaah is better. So what if the 8 doesn't make any sense? It's a name I love and that's all that matters, which is why I have to prove how awesome it is to total strangers on the internet. I will pray for anyone who disagrees with me, because they have negativity in their hearts. kthnxbye.

Funny - I always think of the legendary hidden messages that are supposed to lurk in pop songs if they are played backwards. Surely spelling Heaven backwards would give a message the reverse of its forward meaning? Not that this matters, of course. If you like it, carry right on. I know a boy named Navarre, which sounds pretty much the same but is geographical; nobody minds or gets confused. Clearly it was his mother's choice, and he could change it if he ever wanted to. I hope you enjoyed your rant, though I don't know why you expected us to benefit from your calm, mature wisdom if we are what you believe us to be.

Sounds like you don't really love the name that much. If you did, you wouldn't care that other people have opinions about it other than your own.

I have a little grand-neice named Nevaeh Elizabeth and at first I was not fond of the combo but soon enough Nevaeh's personal charms swayed me on the name :) Blessings on *your* little bit of heaven

Just pointing out that Naveah doesn't spell Heaven backwards! Nevaeh does!

Without commenting on the name itself, if you wish to name your daughter Nevaeh, *please* take careful note of the spelling. It is Nevaeh. Not Navaeh. If you spell it "Na-", then you have misspelled 'heaven' as 'heavan', ruining the entire point of the name. If you like the meaning of 'heaven', perhaps you might like names such as:Celeste -- means 'heavenly' or 'celestial'
Celestina -- also means 'heavenly' or 'celestial'
Celia -- means 'heaven'
Alya - means 'heaven'Nevaeh, while it may seem nice to you now, will seem dated and girlish on your daughter when she is a grown woman. A name like Celeste or Celia is dignified and will grow with her from a little girl to a woman. You will assuredly receive positive comments on a name like Celeste or Celia as being unusual and distinctive but also lovely, graceful, and feminine. You also won't have to feel or be defensive about your name choice if you choose something like Celeste or Celia. :P I am also Christian, and I can understand the appeal of the meaning of Nevaeh. But I think names like Celeste and Celia are more elegant and timeless options to convey this meaning. I promise you your daughter will receive praise for her name if it is Celeste or Celia, as I have known a girl named Celeste who is frequently commented to on how lovely and distinctive her name is, as is the one Celia I have known. Names are important, because they influence and 'carry' our self-identity and self-perception, and also influence how others perceive us (whether we like it or not). Give your daughter a name she can carry proudly from childhood to adulthood, beyond this decade into the decades ahead.
