I love the sound of the name, but I prefer the spelling Amaya. The meaning also bothers me a little, unless she would be your last child, then it wouldn't seem so harsh. I don't think Mimi works as a nn for Amaia at all, it just doesn't make sense. I do think Amaia works nicely with your other kid's names though.

I'm pronouncing Amaia as "A-MY-a" so no, Mimi doesn't strike me as a very logical nn for it.
Caden, Amaia and Lilac just don't sound like they go together in the same family. Lilac especially doesn't belong.

Amaia looks so so pretty. Is it ah-MAY-ah or ah-MY-ah?

I don't at all get Mimi from Amaia. However, a nickname often is not at all like the formal name, so I say go for it.
