[Opinions] Margot?
What does everyone think of Margot? Do you think it would be weird to use it if I have no French ancestry? My combos right now are Margot Catherine, Margot Erica, Margot Lake (all family names or ones with personal meaning).

I like Margot! I personally prefer the spelling Margaux, but I think it's a very pretty name either way :) her nn could be Maggie!Margot Lake is cool! xx

Margot is one of my top girls names and has been for a long time. I'm not French and neither is my husband (we're both Czech), but we both think that we will be using this name in the future.

I think Margot is a pretty cool name. It's got a rough sound to it, and it's definitely one of those girl's names I would call strong. I wouldn't think a thing of it if I met one without any French ancestry. It's not a difficult name to figure out in terms of pronunciation.Margot Catherine has a classic beauty to it, but Catherine feels pedestrian as a middle name. I don't like Erica, so I'm surprised at home much I like Margot Erica. It's snappy.Margot Lake I don't like so much. It would really depend on the last name it was with and if the flow was good there, but it just falls flat.

I love Margot. I do not think it is at all strange to use it with no French ancestry.Of your combos, I like Margot Catherine the best.I think perhaps Margo would be a better choice than Margot, though. I think in the U.S. at least, you would run into pronunciation and spelling issues with a lot of people if you used Margot.

I love the name Margot! (although I prefer the spelling Margaux). I think Margot was Anne Frank's sister?? Margot Erica is a very nice combo (Erica always makes me think of the pretty plant)

I know a Margot who is a couple years older than me. No French there either. I think Margot is familiar enough that it doesn't scream "French!" at people.
I like Margot, it's sophisticated and much nicer than Margaret.

I love Margot, it's on my list and I think it would be a fun way of honouring a Margaret in the family - which is my excuse if I ever use it because my sister's middle name is Margaret and our grandmother was Marjorie.
I don't think it matters if you no French ancestry, especially because it's been popularised by Despicable Me, so now most people know how to pronounce/spell it. :)

I agree with the others that you don't need to have French ancestry to use the name. As far as the spelling goes, what about Margo? I have heard it pronounced the same as the others (Margot, Margeaux) and perhaps it makes it more easy for "the masses" to pronounce and spell correctly.

I love Margot! It's on my list for potential use on a hypothetical future child. I have no French ancestry. I like Margot Catherine the best of your three combos. Margot Erica and Margot Lake seem mismatched in style. Also, Erica feels dated, and I've always thought of Lake as being masculine for whatever reason.

How many Megans are ancestrally Welsh? I don't think that's a requirement at all, in fact all the Margots I've known have been totally non-French. Use it if you like it! I like Margot Erica and Margot Lake; Margot Catherine does seem to expect them both to have the French pronunciation, but it hardly matters.

I think it's fine to use if you want.My thoughts on it though are that it's more the name of that weird old lady down the street, or some uppity socialite. I know it's weird, having that mix of crazy and pretentious, but that's the association I have. Either way, it seems old fashioned in an dowdy way. Of your combos, I think Margot Lake sounds best imo

I don't think there is anything weird about using Margot, especially since it doesn't have any accent marks.I love Margot. I think its classy and uncommon to use, especially here in the US. Lots of people will think its dowdy, so you have to be okay with others' negative opinions. You will especially get lots of "it looks like maggot" comments, so be prepared for that. If that bothers you, you can look into the spelling Margeaux, which I think is pretty but a little less pronounceable to the masses, maybe. I think Margot Lake is cool if Lake has personal meaning. Margot Erica isn't my thing as Erica is super dated. Margot Catherine is okay because I like both names but together it just seems a bit too dusty.

Margot Catherine is beautiful, and I don't think you need personal ancestry to use a name if you really adore it or believe it would apply well to any future child you have. I personally find Margeaux beautiful.

I love Margot/Margo/Margaux. It's clunky, but appealing in its clunky-ness.No, I don't think it would be weird to use it if you have no French ancestry. People use all sorts of names these days, so I don't think anyone would think twice about it.I like Margot Catherine.
