[Opinions] Nicola
I had a dream about this name last night and I'm just wondering what people think of it. I know in the U.S Nicole is more popular than Nicola, so I wonder if someone would constantly be mistaken for Nicole growing up here. However, I think Nicola is just so fun to say. It rolls off the tongue. The nicknames (no pun intended) of Nic, Nico, Cole, Cola, Colie around the house would be fun too, though I think it could definitely stand on its own as well. Also, I've always hated the nn Nicky/Nikki so I'd hope that would not be used by anyone. Growing up, I named my favorite baby doll Nicholas so I think I have soft spot for this name, lol. And actually the night before I had a dream about the name Nico so maybe it's running in my head a bit! haha. But any thoughts, opinions, or combos would be welcome!
I like:
Nicola Jennifer
Nicola Marley
Nicola Teagan
Nicola Riley
Nicola Lucy
Nicola Jocelyn
Nicola Melody
Nicola Evelyn
Nicola Rose
Nicola Blue
Nicola Violet
Nicola Mae
Nicola Corrine
Nicola Ingrid
Nicola Beatrice
Nicola Emily
Nicole Genevieve
Nicola Willow
Nicola Heather
Nicola Eloise
Nicola Quinn
Nicola Rowan
Nicola Phoebe
Nicola Dorothy
Nicola Luna
Nicola Vivian This name seems to lend its self to middle names and I could honestly go on and on...those were the few that just came to my head, but any thoughts or opinions would be great! Thanks!

Nicola has always been interesting to me and I do like how it ends on an upbeat. I remember when I first heard it and was pronouncing it ni-COLE-uh, lol. The real way sounds so much better. I think it may be confused with Nicole if someone isn't paying close enough attention to what's being said. Written it shouldn't pose a problem.Of your combos, I like Nicola Rose, Nicola Mae, Nicola Genevieve and Nicola Rowan best.

To me, Nicola is definitely a boys' name. I know a number of older guys born in Italy with the name. I can't see it as a girls' name.

I like it. Pronounced NIK-ola, not ni-KOL-a. I've only known one Nicola. She was my landlady. I like Nicola a lot better than I like Nicole, which is just okay.I do like the nickname Nikki, so I win. I mean, it's the natural nickname... if you stress the first syllable. Nic and Nico and Cole are really mannish IMO ... they have that "I'm such a genderbender, look how edgy!" vibe that annoys me. But I don't think Nicola needs a nickname, because as you say it rolls off the tongue.I like Nicola Vivian.

I don't like it. It makes me think of a British 20-something.

I dislike it, it's quite dated here in the UK (to the 70s and 80s). Most Nicola's I know go by Nikki or Nic.

I'm not fond of Nicole, but I definitely prefer it to Nicola. I don't know why but Nicola just sounds annoying. I think a Nicola would be every bit as likely to be called Nikki as Nicole, which is maybe a fifty-fifty chance or greater. Here in Delaware there is a fairly famous pizza parlor on the boardwalk called Nicola's. Very good food, lots of celebrity customers' photos on the walls, and it's run by a very nice family and has been for something like forty years. Nicola was the father's name, apparently, and his son, who runs the place now with his mother, is Nick, presumably Nicola Junior.

I like Nicola a lot and Nicole not at all. It seems so heavy and dull next to sparkling Nicola! Nicola Jocelyn and Nicola Lucy and Nicola Beatrice - wow, wow and wow again.ETA: I know a Nico and a Nicole who used to date. Their breakup wasn't name-related!
