Help[Opinions] Wreath
I usually like unusual naturey names, at least hypothetically. I encountered Wreath today for the first time and had never thought of it for a name before. It was on a baby girl, and her first name was a double nature name too. The whole combo was a bit super hippie overkill imo, but anyway. Hypothetically, I thought Wreath was really pretty. Thoughts?

Wreath is pretty a bit. As an unusual word name, it can't help but remind me of similar sounding words, so I immediately think Wraith. Hearing it on a person could help with that, though.
Garland is nice and more expected, too.

Hmm, I don't find it that pretty really, and I just associate wreaths with death and funerals so not an association I would want for a child's name!

Sounds far too much like Rhys to ever work here, & wreaths to me are primarily associated with funerals. How about Garland instead?

Oh I really don't like it. I don't even like the sound of it (like as in if it weren't a thing, it's still yuck). There's also the association that my mother will never hang a wreath on the door at Christmas because she says it feels like it's meant to be for when people die. I have no idea if that's a real thing or if it is a weird thing my Mum just thinks but either way that's what I think of.

At first I was like, ugh weird no. But it is growing on me immensely. It's very romantic in a way - it's like a Victorian spin on hippie style.

I don't like it. It reminds me of the words 'wrath' and 'wretch', and I agree that it sounds like Reese with a lisp.

Aw, your comment made me realize it also sounds like "wraith." I like wreaths, I don't want to associate them with wraiths!

As I recall the Norwegians called her Reet, which might be the Norwegian word for wreath or might just have been pa's interpretation of what he was told.
Spot is kind of original for a cow, more so than Bessie or Bossy.

I think it was Wreath, but it sounded like "Reet" with their accent.

Reith is a common-ish surname where I live, so that's what little Wreath would be mistaken for.
So no, I don't like it. Perhaps because I think of a wreath as a "made" decoration, rather than undiluted nature.

It does! I knew there was something I didn't like about Wreath although it looks nice written down as a word (not as a name).
