I've read a series where Nick is an immortal dwarf, made immortal by Tycho Brahe. He's mouthy and a nymphomaniac. Too tied to the character to me.

To me too. I've never heard of Nico as a nickname for Nicholas around here, so that connection doesn't even really register for me.
