[Opinions] Dagny
I recently heard one of my friends say she was thinking about the name Dagny for her little girl. I responded with "Daphne?" thinking I had misheard her. What are y'alls thoughts on Dagny? I'd never heard of it before she mentioned it.♥ Rate my list ♥

I think it's awful to be honest. Not my style at all.

I think it's ugly as sin.Looks/sounds like 'daggy' with is (Australian?) slang for something uncool. So...

Love itI love Dagny, it's a great, beautiful and unique girls name.

You know, I use to dislike it but for some reason, at this moment, I kind of like it! It's sort of tomboyish but old fashioned, unusual and modern but also antiquated. It's got spunk!

I hate the sound of this name! My younger brother and his fiance actually like it, so I have heard of it before.

It's very old-fashioned (think Mildred), but I kinda like it anyway. If you pronounce it right, that is. I dislike the English pronunciation DAG-nee and I do think it would be confused with Daphne a lot.

I think Dagny is really ugly. I tend to dislike female names with a hard G sound (e.g. Agatha, Gertrude, Dagmar, Olga) - I find them harsh and unfeminine.

Dagny doesn't have a hard G sound, at least not in the Scandinavian languages. The pronounciation is more like DUNG-nee.

I think it sounds horrible, with the English pronunication anyway! Daphne would be so much better.

If it's pronounced Dag-nee, I think it's ugly ugly ugly and even the snooty Daphne is an improvement.

It's not pronounced Dag-nee. There is no hard G-sound in the name. It should be pronounced like Dang-nee. Not sure that's an improvement though.

As I'm Swedish, I've heard it many times.
I don't like it. It's too old fashion, outdated. I can't imagine someone under the age of 70 with this name. And I can't really say that I like how it's pronounced in English, either. Daphne is better.

Ditto. Can't imagine Dagny on a young person. A Dagny, to me, is in her 80s. It always makes me think of a (rather old) Swedish song about a young waitress working at a café in Uppsala (my hometown). We ALWAYS had to sing it during music classes just because the composer, Owe Törnqvist, is one of Uppsala's celebrities. So to me, Dagny is an irritating song.
And the fact that it's the heroine of a book by Ayn Rand (yuck) doesn't exactly make it more appealing...

I kind of love it. Not something you hear every day, but it would definitely grow on me. How does she plan to pronounce it? I've heard both dag-nee and dawg-nee.
It's spunky and off beat, but still an established, correctly spelled name.

She would pronounce it dag-nee.
