[Opinions] Yvonne and Gwen
Yvonne has steadily been growing on me. I previously preferred when spelled Evonne but am now more interested in the "yih-VON" pronunciation (as opposed to "ee-VON"). What is your first instinct in regards to pronunciation? And which do you prefer? Also, Gwen is seeming more and more like a name I would use in real life (I still love Gwenith too but Gwen-by-itself feels more realistic). I would really love some combo help though! The only one I have on standby is Gwen Elsabeth. _______________________________________

It's ee-VON to me, or maybe ih-VON but definitely not yih-VON. Yih-VON sounds as tackily incorrect to me as calling an Yves "YIVZ," or a Renee "Reh-NEE," or Antoine "An-TOYN." I would just say ih-VON if someone introduced herself to me as yih-VON, and see if I got corrected again, or if I could get away with it.I like Gwen, and I think it's alright as a full name by itself. I like Gwendolen enough to use that as a full name though. I like Gwyneth more than Gwenith, but I think Gwen can be short for Gwyneth too.Gwen Allegra

Ee-VON is the only way I'd pronounce the name. Just Gwen is fine, though I also like Gwendolyn.

My first instinct and preferred pronunciation is ee-VON, but I don't mind yih-VON either. Gwen Elsabeth is a nice combo. Classy. Personally, I'd try to spice up Gwen to make her more fun, but there is nothing wrong with Gwen Elsabeth.

I prefer the Y- spelling, and it's strictly ee-VON to me. Meeting a yih-VON would amuse me, but not in a good way. More like an "Aw, bless your heart!" way. I lovelovelove Gwen, and Gwen Elsabeth is adorable. Gwen Louisa

I really like Yvonne, it's elegant and cool but not very unusual. I pronounce it Ee-vonne, same as I would Evonne. And Ee-VON is how I've always heard it pronounced.Don't like Gwen because I think a gw sound is ugly.

I've only ever known Yvonne to be pronounced "eev-ON"I like Gwen, too. Gwenith and Gwendolyn are great fns but Gwen is one of the few names that're typically nns but I can see as a fn. And Viatrix produced a lot of great combos in the post below!

I would pronounce both Yvonne and Evonne as ee-VON. I prefer Yvonne, visually.I really like Gwen. Gwen Elsabeth doesn't work for me, although I'd love Gwen Elisabeth. Funny how one little 'i' can make all the difference!I seem to like Gwen with long middles:
Gwen Alexandra
Gwen Albertina
Gwen Miriama
Gwen Eloisa
Gwen Katharina
Gwen Rosalind
Gwen Marina
Gwen Theresa

My first instinct? "Thats not how you pronounce Yvonne." Yvonne is Ih-vonn or ee-vonn not yih-vonn, or at least I have never heard anyone pronounce it that way. I think most people will meet her and call her ih-vonn or ee-vonn.
