[Opinions] Ilia / Ilya
When I was younger, I had a friend named Sasha. We had overactive imaginations, and loved to use them.
In one of the 'worlds' we used to visit, she informed me that she was called Elena and I was Ilia / Ilya.
I was just thinking about this, and wondered what you think?
I like it due to the happy memories, however I find the IL difficult to look at. Also which spelling do you prefer?
:)

I know a girl named Ilia, and I quite like the name. The IL is a little tough, but it's very pretty. I prefer the I spelling.

To me, both are entirely masculine which works out great if you are a man but otherwise doesn't work. I prefer Ilya.

I would naturally pronounce it ill-ee-ah, but apparently it's pronounced eel-YAH, so that's a bit of a hurdle to get over for my personally, haha. I think I prefer the Ilya as there's not so many tall letters, so it's easier to read.

I love Ilya -- for a boy.

Well... Ilya is a boy's name, but I guess I could see it on a girl. It's got the -ya ending that would help it seem more girl-ish.
Problems might happen if an Ilya when to a French-speaking country because il y a means 'there is/are..'I think I like the Ilya spelling better. Ilia as too many straight upward letters in a row, I think.

Funny thing is, we grew up in France together!

I love Ilya, on a boy. I grew up watching tennis and Ilya Nastase was always fun to watch. Ilya struck an early name nerd instinct in me when I learned it was the Russian form of Elijah. The neurotransmitters went into overdrive and I was fascinated. Besides, Ilya is just so much fun to say out loud. Ilya Constantine is my stock combo for it. On a girl? I'll pass. I've almost given up on Sasha and Nikita on a boy. Please don't make me let go of Ilya as well. :0/ What about Ilse / Ilsa instead?

Sorry, it's already a feminine name in Colombia. I agree about it staying a boy's name, but the -ia/-ya ending is feminine in so many languages that I can see how it jumped genders.
