[Opinions] Iowa
I recently saw a little girl named Iowa. Personally, I think it sounds ridiculous. What do you think?

I don't think it's completely ridiculous, though I don't like it. Maybe I've gone numb, since I know a couple who are considering Alabama, and I taught a Kansas last year. So, why not Iowa? I expect to meet my first New Hampshire any day now.
Agreed. Most place names sound ridiculous to me.
it does sound ridiculous ...
Not because it's the name of a state, but because the name of the state sounds like a big yawn.
So does Ohio.

Ohio also means hello in Japanese!
Oh, it's kind of odd, but doesn't bother me much.
I have a young cousin named Kansas. And I had neighbours in Australia who had a daughter named Tennessee. These people were New Zealanders, though, and perhaps the U.S. seemed far away and exotic.
The western states tend to be the namey ones. And not the Canadian provinces, except the ones that contain names already. Prince EDWARD Island. And Alberta, I think was named for Prince Albert.

Not every state needs to be a name.
No, just no.
Eugh. Iowa is kind of awkward for me to say; bit of a mouthful for a name. I can't even come up with any decent nicknames for it (Io, maybe?). I couldn't imagine calling a child Iowa, any more than I can imagine calling a child Arkansas or Massachusetts.
I cannot believe I found a name worse than Montana.
