[Opinions] Fiona
I'm starting to like this name, even though it still sounds kind of bratty to me. Thoughts? "What matters most is how well you walk through the fire." -Charles Bukowski

I really like Fiona. It's sweet, feminine and a bit different without being overly common or weird. It's one of my dh's fave names (Fiona Jane, to be exact) while I prefer Fiona Joy. I don't picture someone named Fiona as being bratty. I've never known anyone by the name so I have no associations with it whatsoever. I don't even associate it with "Shrek" the way some do.

It's actually my number one right now. I used to feel the same way, that it gave off a snobby impression, but somehow I got over that. Now I don't see that at all. It's so light and bouncy when you say it. Plus, how cute is Fi as a nickname?

I like it, and I've somewhat liked all the Fiona people I've met, which always helps. Can't decide whether its lack of a nn is a plus or a minus.Surprisingly, I once met a new baby whose British parents had named her Fiona and pronounced it fie O na. Very strange.

I don't think it's bratty at all. I think it's timeless and beautiful.

As a child, this was my very favourite name! I still like it now but it's probably a bit dated here now so I doubt I'd use it.It's definitely not a bratty name, in my opinion though. In fact, I'd say it has the complete opposite vibe to me. I think of Fionas as being very intelligent and successful. I've known quite a few Scottish Fionas as well as it's a Scottish name.

I've always liked it - it seems pretty without being frilly. It doesn't seem bratty to me. It reminds me of the book The Giver, which I believe is being made into a movie. And then there's the Shrek connection, but that doesn't really bother me. The reason its unusable for me personally is that it means fair or white and I have a hard time seeing any of my kids coming out being blonde :-) It's a connection that probably doesn't bother anyone else, but it's what I always think of.

I think it's adorbs. To me it doesn't sound bratty. I think it sounds spirited and... redheaded.

I like it. It feels classy and British, not bratty to me.

I like it in theory. I doubt I'd ever use it but I do like it. I'm not sure what it is about it that makes me say No to ever using it in RL. It reminds of Fiona from Burn Notice who kicks a lot of butt.

It's pretty. I guess I also get a somewhat bratty vibe due to associations, but that doesn't ruin it for me. It's really a beautiful name, and quite sweet as well. Nice.

I really like it. All the Fiona's I know are really sweet or clever (or both!).
