I actually quite like it. It rings trendy (what with the Aldon, Arden, Aidens)... but isn't.
However, I do know someone with Albin as a surname, so that was my first thought.
In this case, I like Alan better. In fact, I love Alan... since is it so simple and sweet.
However, Al-names are not usable in general (to me), because of the inevitable nickname Al.
