Well, yes both are dated. There's no getting around that. But there may be people out there who either don't mind a dated name, or would actually rather use one than a name that isn't dated. So their being dated is a fact, but whether or not that's a negative is a matter of opinion.
Datedness aside, I dislike Barbara. It sounds very harsh to me. I don't like how it looks, either, the syllable "bar" repeated twice. I like Patricia, though. It really is soft and pretty. It was wildly popular at one point, and for a long time, so there are a lot of Patricias out there. But I can see why it was so popular. I don't like some of the nickname options for Patricia, but I do like Tricia and Trish.
