[Opinions] Mellan
What does everyone think of the name Mellan? I just discovered it, and I'm really liking it. I've always adored the nickname Mel, but I dislike Melvin and I don't think I'm the type to use Melchior. I really like the look of Mellan as well as the meaning, but I'm kinda wary of the sound (because it seems to be pronounced identically to the word "melon." Potential problem?)
Also, what would you pair with it? I kind of like the sound of Mellan Josiah, but I'm not sure.

I like Mellan though I haven't seen nor heard of it before.
It has a very soft sound and look. This may on the other hand be its weak point. It is very close to Melanie - and yes, melon. I would use it as the middle name only, if I was you.
Combo suggestions:
Angus Mellan
Henry Mellan
Clancy Mellan
Mellan Connor
Mellan Ennis
Fergus Mellan
Finbar Mellan
Finlay Mellan
Mellan Finn
Mellan Kilian
Lucas Mellan
Oscar Mellan
Mellan Quinn
Thomas Mellan

Haha!
Mellan is the Swedish word for "between" so I can't really take it seriously.
And...it sounds more feminine.

If it helps... my daughter's middle name (Bituin) SOUNDS like the English word "between" so people here find it strange. However, it means "star" in the Philippines, so those there find it enchanting.

Exactly my thoughts, too :)

No go. Bad idea. Sounds exactly like melon and who wants to have a name like that?
Melons and the Mellon family (of Gulf Oil fame) popped to mind. As neat as Mellan is in theory, it might not be the easiest to life with.
My cousin had a son named Mael ("mel") after an early Celtic saint. It's not a nickname but a name in its own right. The BtN database has another pronunciation, but my cousin was born and still lives in Ireland (Munster) so I take her pronunciation as correct too. The BtN database doesn't include a spelling that looks more Irish, where an accent mark goes up over the A. Anyway, a long-winded way of offering an alternative to Melvin and (my beloved) Melchior. :0)
