Absolutely Love Ptolemy!

I absolutely adore Ptolemy! It's my 3rd favourite boys name, and I've considered pushing it up to second place a lot recently. I don't think it's pretentious, and even if loads of people think it is (quite a few seem to), I really don't care. I love the sound, the look, and the imagery I get from it, although the meaning is probably the one downside (but it's not too difficult to get over).

As both Ptolemy and Myrtle are unusual names, I think they go together well, and the fact you love both is most important (in my opinion anyway).

It's an interesting name. Ptolly or Tolly would be a good nickname.

It's fantastic. It also has the very user-friendly nn Tolly, which goes quite nicely with Myrtle, imo.

Love Ptolemy! I do think it'll seem a bit daft and weird, but people can get used to it. He'll have to tell people how to spell and say his name his whole life though, I suspect. It might be better as a very awesome middle name.

Personally, I think it's pretty mismatched with Myrtle, but I really don't think that will bother most people.

I really like the name Ptolemy, but I wouldn't personally use it. It's flamboyant enough that not just anyone could pull it off. It certainly catches the eye though, and I would love to meet one.

It's extremely pretentious. It's extremely weird. And I love it to bits!! It's fabulous because it's, like, knowingly pretentious and doesn't even care. It's a Pharaoh, it has attitude. I love it.

I don't think it goes with Myrtle, though. I don't think they clash terribly but Myrtle seems a little bland next to the exuberance of Ptolemy.

It's funny -I don't find the sound of Ptolemy pretentious: it's actually quite adorable?? Like if it was written "Tollemy" - see how cute that is? Not pretentious at all. He sounds like a darling street urchin in a fantasy novel. The LOOK of Ptolemy is more heavy. Egyptian kings and all that. But still really nifty. I would be excited to see how many ways his name would get spelled ;)

I kinda like it. I guess I like it in theory, but have a hard time seeing it on a real person. That said, I would be thrilled to meet someone named Ptolemy, just because it's different than the average Jacob/Alexander. I think it goes well with Myrtle.

I think initially people would find it pretentious and then it would be fine. I don't really think it goes with Myrtle, but it isn't super mismatched.

Love it! I think in real life it would seem a bit pretentious, though. But also very cool. I think it goes alright with Myrtle.
