[Opinions] Freddie vs. Teddy
Which do you prefer, Frederick or Theodore? If you have the time / inclination, what vibes do you get from each name?
They sit at 82 and 78 in the 2013 UK charts, respectively, and both have been moving gently up and down the charts for the past decade and now appear to be moving further up, though that seems liable to change. If I had a Freddie right now, he'd be a Frederick Ambrose Arthur. If I had a Teddy right now... well, I'm not sure what he'd be.Much obliged!

I love Frederick Ambrose Arthur! I have an uncle named Frederick called Fred. I like Fred as a nn partially because of my uncle but also because of Fred and George being my favorite two characters in Harry Potter. Freddie is pretty good but I think of Freddie from Nightmare on Elm Street but I also think of Freddie Prince Jr. so it's a toss up.I love the name Theodore and I love the nn's Ted and Teddy, though my favorite nn is Theo. I always think of Teddy Roosevelt when I hear the nn Teddy. I would still use Teddy inspite of the teddy bear making the name seem a bit cute. Both are great names but I slightly prefer Theodore.Theodore "Teddy" and Frederick "Freddie" have a very similar personalities in my opinion though Freddie would be a little more physical. Teddy has a very similar personality but he's probably a little less physical than a Freddie.

I love both! I think Freddie is more usable and I love the combo you've come up with. Teddy is super cute but I don't think it ages so well and it could become dated.Unfortunately, with the last name Bundy I won't be using either of them :(

Oh, well that's unfortunate... Thank you! :)

Oh gosh, I love both names so much and would love to use eith of them. If I had to pick, I'd probably for with Theodore. I love Frederick and Freddie, but oddly, don't like Fred at all. And I'd be worried it would eventually be shortened to that. So if I had a to use one of the names today it would be Theodore Warren Charles or Theodore William Charles.

I was never a big Fred fan, but it's somehow managed to grow on me over time. Thank you! :)

Frederick's my favorite boys' name and has been for years. Theodore I'm more or less neutral on. I've never loved it, but I don't dislike it either.I don't really have a clear picture of/vibes from Frederick, but Theodore has always been very studious to me, and maybe a bit of a goody-goody.If I had a Frederick he'd probably be Frederick Allan John or Frederick Allan Davis.I love Frederick Ambrose Arthur. :)

Thank you! Frederick Allan John is sturdy and handsome :)

I prefer Frederick "Freddie" out of the two. Frederick Ambrose Arthur is not really my thing, but it's certainly not horrible!

I like both, but I prefer Theodore which I absolutely love. I like Teddy as a nickname, but personally I would use Theo :)What about Theodore James Archibald or Theodore Isaac Xavier ?

Thank you! Isaac and Xavier aren't particularly for me, but I adore Archibald :)

No, Theo!Much, much prefer Theodore. I wouldn't use Teddy, though. Teddy is stupid for anyone older than three and as well as that, I'm a huge fan of Theo.Vibes:
Frederick - someone wearing an anorak and standing out in the rain. Probably waiting for the bus or something.
Theodore - someone with glasses and black hair sitting in a dusty, darkened library.I love Ambrose for a middle name. I love the gentle, ancient feeling it has. Almost magical. It's like a bottle of perfectly aged wine.
I wouldn't put it in front, though, because it's got Rose right in there and unless you live in a wine cellar or somewhere very Old World, it's always going to seem out of place.I could love a Theodore Loren Ambrose.

Teddy it is, I'm afraid. The vibes you get from the names are interesting, because your description of a Theodore perfectly matches a vaguely famous Frederick I can think of. He'd probably wear an anorak, too, though. I agree with your analysis of Ambrose, too. Thank you!

Aw, okay. If it has to be Teddy then there it is.Really? That's kind of funny. I don't think I know/know of any Fredericks at all.No problem :)

I prefer Edward (Teddy) to Frederick (Freddie) but prefer Frederick to Theodore (Teddy).

I prefer Frederick to Theodore, but Teddy to Freddie.Frederick gives me a very strong dignified vibe, but with a fun side. I really dislike Freddie though, enough that it makes we want to avoid Frederick.Theodore actually gives me quite a silly, joking feel, with Teddy bringing a sweetness to the picture.Frederick Ambrose Arthur is a fantastic combo. Great flow and some excellent names. I'd love to see what you do come up with for Theodore.

Thank you! Is there any particular reason you dislike Freddie, or is it just one of those things?
