I hadn't associated it with a bow and arrow. I just think of ribbons and frilly bows.
I have always assumed (perhaps wrongly) that the Bows born in England/Wales were misspellings of Bo or Beau (which gets used for girls). It makes me think the parents were perhaps illiterate, not that they had deliberately chosen that spelling. That also puts me off it!
