[Opinions] Elroy?
Too "Jestons" still?
BONUS - any name you love that has been boosted or tainted by cartoondom?

Definitely Velma. I think it's safe to say that Scooby-Doo has rendered it unusable.
I do think of "Jetsons" but it's a positive association for me and, aside from that, Elroy has a cuddly vibe I can't help but like. Don't know whether youngsters still watch the cartoon these days; it might be ready for a comeback.
Don't know that it's been boosted or tainted, but I've loved Faline ever since seeing Bambi as a kid. :)

oh! Astro. Ha! I forgot about him.
I like it. But, as someone who likes Jetson as a name in itself, I'm not sure you should listen to my opinion. Elroy is super fun. And I think it's cooler than Leroy - or at least sounds smarter.
I love the name Casper, which everyone says is tainted by the ghost, but I like the association. Also I love Mona from "Mona the Vampire". Cartoons don't seem to ruin names for me, really. It gives them a quirky flavour.

I think yes, too Jetsons. Also I just am put off by the sound of -roy names in English (Leroy, Delroy, etc.) Pronounced in French though, I don't mind the sound.
No names I love that have been cartoon-tainted. I did go to school with a Homer, and while I don't like the name, find it unfortunate to be more associated with the cartoon character than the author.

I knew a kid from Mexico named Roberto... he went by Bert. Everyone always asked him where Ernie was. Eventually he told everyone to call him Rob. Poor kid.
My grandfather was named Mario. His brother? Luigi.
Of course, he had a brother named Samuel and a brother named Giuseppe (Joe) too.
The Super Mario connection was cool because of the characters though not tainted, so I suppose you could still use Mario and Luigi.

I went to school with a boy named Elmer, in the days when the Elmer Fudd character was well known. However, none of us thought to connect the two.
Oddly, at age about 10, his mother decided that her should be called Edward, his middle name. Went to the school to tell the teacher about it. The teacher tried her best to remember the new name..
In fact, Elmer, now Edward, didn't like the new name, and we kids all continued to call him Elmer, at his insistent request.

This reminds me
I actually had a good friend in elementary-middle school named Alvin. He did get teased a bit.

Elroy does make me think of the Jetsons but overall I like the name.
I'm not planning to. Was just looking for opinions on the name.
I was thinking of names I know but have never heard on people and thought of Elroy.
Though, for what it's worth, nerdy is not a negative descriptor to me. Mostly because I am nerdy.
