[Opinions] Lyrid
I was reading about the Lyrid Meteor shower, and I thought I'd post it as a name. I think it would work for a female more than a male. It's kind of close to Lyric, which, as a name, I find to be a tad lame. It also reminds me of Vered, but that is a positive.

Unfortunately, it reminds me of the word "lurid"... which I don't like. Lyric I do like though.

Sorry, but I think it sounds like a medicine.

My first thought was that it was a misspelling of Lyric. My second though was "lurid." So I don't think it quite works. I do enjoy space-related names, though.

It reminds me of lurid, also, which isn't a good association.

Reminds me of the word "lurid" which tends to be used more when talking about graphic violence or sexual situations so I wouldn't want to use Lyrid for that reason. Just too similar.

For me it's too close to lyric and lurid without already being a word/name that I know, so the only connotation I have is its similarity to those words. It wouldn't be for me.

I agree that Lyric is lame. I think Lyrid sounds like a type of worm, and also too close to lurid. If it were really a name, or even just a noun instead of an adjective, it would be okay, but as an invention it has too many problems. Maybe Lyrida or Lyrica, if we're inventing names.

Love meteor shower imagery (went out in the middle of nowhere and watched an incredible Leonid show one year). Lyrid *should* make me think of Lyra, or perhaps even Lyric, but, unfortunately, "lurid" is what first came to mind. Not sure I can shake that.

Certainly more f than m, but I'd much rather see Lyra - noun beats adjective.

I think I could see it working for either. As a girl's name, it puts me in the mind of Astrid, a solid and strong yet still feminine name. As a boy's name, it makes me think of both Lloyd and Lyric (the latter of which I have always preferred for a boy anyway), so it seems zany, whimsical, and airy, a softer male choice. I think I'd probably end up using it as a cool middle name for a girl, if I were to use it, but I think it could truly work fine for either.
