[Opinions] Raymonde?
We're expecting again :) A part of my husbands family is french, so he considers a lot of french names too. So his current favourite for a girl is Raymonde, (NN Rémi). It's his grandmothers name and quite unpopular as a given name today. I kind of like it, but I'm afraid that it's a bad choice for non-french areas, because of the pronunciation...
What do you think about Raymonde?

I admit, it is a rather old-fashioned name, but I actually kinda like it. In France it isn't really an issue, but I don't know about English-speaking countries. Maybe it would be better as a middle name.

I wouldn't use it. The "monde" syllable is always awkward and NOT mellifluous. It's a clunky feminization. It also has little modern appeal; too old-fashioned, but not classic. Middle name, I'd say.
As a mn for family reasons, it's fine. But male -mond names are very dusty and dated, and female -monde names are, I think, pretty well unknown outside French-speaking communities.
I like Rémi, which I think could stand alone; if not, I'd consider something like Rachel for the Ray- element and/or Rosamond for the ending.

Hmm, I love Remi. I do think Raymonde won't sound the same coming out of the mouths the English-speakers your child will likely encounter day to day. That might be something you want to think about. Many names that are French in origin are in use by English speakers, and they almost never sound the same as their French counterpart.
Congratulations!
I have never heard of Raymonde. It doesn't seem particularly feminine, but it's not bad either. My understanding it that the pronunciation is ray-MAWND. So would you pronounce Rémi RAY-mee? That's cute!
I don't think the pronunciation is too hard to explain to people.

I forgot all about lovely Raymonde! I'm quite fond of it, so I heartily endorse its use!
I know a few people named Raymonde, I'm in a French-speaking area.As you say, not often used these days.
It's a good name, and Remi is a fine nick-name.

I think it's a lovely name. But I agree with you about it being not so great if people around can't do the French accent. Saying it "Ray-MAWND" in an American accent isn't nearly the same as a French speaker saying it in French. The initial R is so different, the stress is different, the A and O are different.
Rémi sounds different in French, too, but it's not as bad. If she really went by Rémi every day all the time, it could be okay. It might make it worth the slight difficulty, because when a dad is attached to a favorite name for a daughter that's a very cool thing.

I love it! I love that it's French and way edgier of a "boy name on a girl" choice than boring ol' James or Riley or Taylor. I love that it's both the name of a great grandmother AND it's related to YOUR name too! I AM 100% ON BOARD WITH THIS NAME I'M SO EXCITED
Also Rémi is adorable and sassy.

It's true the pronunciation isn't intuitive for English-speakers, but it isn't complicated to say or spell; I doubt most people would have difficulty with it once they are told how to pronounce it.
I think it's a very nice name with nice meanings. :)
