[Opinions] Fy enw i yw Nia!
Sorry about the sudden Welsh. I just had to... I felt the urge.
Actually where I live Nia is very common! (I'm Welsh, here we pronounce it nee-a and it's a variant of Niamh.) My name is Nia and I know two other Nias and one whose middle name is Nia.
I would never not kill a character because I like their name. The name's in print, I can think about it. In fact most of my characters have names I'm not fussed about, I give them names based on what I think their parents would call them. If I gave them all names I like, I would have to base all my writing in France for it to be even slightly realistic! So yes, I would give characters names I dislike. In a piece of writing I did recently the main character's love interest is Ursule, which I prefer to Ursula, but used to hate and still don't really like. (Still, I made up for it by calling the main character Anouk which is a top favourite!)
I think you should do what you like with your story, but just make sure you're not changing it too much for the sake of a name."You can have freedom, or you can have peace. But not both at once."
