What are your impressions of this name? Negative? For a while I shrugged it off, considering it something goth teens wanted for their child, but right now I am considering it quite elegant and classy.
It could be seen as pretentious, but frankly, every birth announcement I have heard, every combo on this site, and every name that is interesting to anyone has at least some pretension, so it has had a balancing effect on my admiration for Xavier.
It also sounds very striking with my surname.

I agree it's elegant and classy, but it's also trendy, unfortunately. But the trendiness keeps it from sounding pretentious.

I have a young relative (age 12) named Xavier.At first I thought, a bit out there, but am use to it now, it's a good name.
He has an older brother named for a western U.S. state (family is Canadian),so they like somewhat under-used names.
No-one names kids for western Canadian provinces, I can see why. Saskatchewan?
Or eastern U.S. states. I can see not New Hampshire, but Maine wouldn't be too bad.

I like Xavier, but only said Zay-vee-er. It doesn't come across to me as pretentious at all, more energetic, handsome, and adventurous. Great name in my opinion.

Oh, I definitely pronounce it Eg-zay-vyer.

I like it but worry it would be pronounced eggs-ay-vee-yer rather than zay-vee-yer.

Nice old Catholic name. Elegant. Snazzy scrabble letter there at the beginning - I'm not immune to that gimmick myself.

I like Xavier. Not my favorite but it's a good name. It never struck me as solid until I met one - he was a big sweetheart and went by the nickname X, which was both badass and endearing.

I've never come across it IRL with the English pronunciation, which is a bit close to 'saviour' for me. Definitely usable, though, and I don't think it's pretentious - it's a saint's name, it has a good solid history.

I like Xavier. I don't really think of it as being overly used, overly trendy. For me it is sort of a blank slate of a name, I can't really think of how this person would be or who this person would be, which can be a really unique, cool thing for me to experience.
I don't find it pretentious. Though I don't think Sebastian or Rupert are either, honestly.
