[Opinions] Atlas
I am captivated at present by the name Atlas. It gives me the feeling of an aviator, and since I come from an Air Force family, this is appealing. Thoughts, combos? Do you think it would match a sibset with a brother named Jasper or Jethro? Other names that give me an aviator feeling are Asa and Silas, though my enjoyment of Silas has waned due to a negative television association.Do you think Atlas Jerome is handsome? I adore it.

I think virtually anything with Jerome is handsome, so yes.I'm pleasantly surprised Atlas has raised in popularity somewhat in the last couple years! It's cool. Like I mentioned below in a post about Apostolos, super Greek names are refreshing to me.I do think of the world map and therefore the library, which is a nice connotation for me - I'm surprised some people below think "a book of maps" is a bad thing! The only bad connotation I think of is Ayn Rand's garbage, but I can look past it.

I totally agreeThe Ayn Rand excrement is a definite negative, but I still love the sounds.

I really like Atlas and have for a few years now.
But I don't think it fits with Jasper or Jethro in a sibset, but those wouldn't be horrible middle names.
Atlas Jerome isn't my style, but it flows nicely.Atlas Sebastian
Atlas Constantine
Atlas Morgan
Atlas Barton
Atlas Gabriel
Atlas Xavier
Atlas Lindsay
Atlas Evander
Atlas Julian
Atlas Jeremiah
Atlas Carson
Atlas Nathaniel
Atlas Tristan
Atlas James

Funny you should mention Atlas because I was just thinking about it today. I like it, but it makes me think of a book of maps way too much for me to seriously use it.

I don't think it's a good idea to name a kid Atlas. An atlas is a book of maps. Other kids might make fun of it, especially if the kid is taking a geography class.Jerome sounds nice, though.

Does anyone actually use atlases anymore? When we have Google maps?

Is Google maps not just an online, interactive atlas?

In Social Studies, we use atlases.

Atlas is a character in Greek mythology. That's who the books of maps is named after. So in Atlas's defense, it was a name first.

I feel Atlas would work much better as a middle name, though I don't think Jerome Atlas really flows all that well (Atlas Jerome flows better). Some random Atlas combos:Sebastian Atlas Joel
Jonathan Atlas
Ian Atlas Nathaniel
Gavin Frederick Atlas
Richard Atlas
Samuel Atlas
Samuel Atlas GrantMaybe I'd like Atlas Jerome better if I added a third name: Evan Atlas Jerome, Gabriel Atlas Jerome, Percival Atlas Jerome.I feel like Atlas as a first name fits with Jasper more than with Jethro, but it might depend on what the middle names were as well.

I really like the three name combo idea. It works great for this name. :)

Atlas would make a good name for a very large dog, or maybe a very small dog. But on a person it seems ridiculous, like Charles Atlas the bodybuilder who ran a mail-order bodybuilding business.

I love Atlas. Its so handsome, so old fashioned (to me).Atlas & Jasper sound handsome, or Atlas and Asa. Silas could possibly work too. I don't dig Jerome much.
What about:
Atlas & Felix
Atlas & Reuben
Atlas & Hamish
Atlas & Fabian
Atlas & Caspian
Atlas & Magnus
Atlas & Ambrose
Atlas & Tobin
