[Opinions] Aviya (boy)
What do you think of Aviya? Boy's name. I really love it... I have a soft spot of boy's names ending in -a and kind of wish I didn't live in a mostly English-speaking country so they'd be more usable. And, if you feel in the mood, care to suggest any boy's names that someone who loves Aviya might like?

I would guess that an Aviya would be a girl. And it sound exactly like the shoe brand Avia. So not unusable, but I'd say those are two pretty big drawbacks for me.Edited to add:
How about Sascha and Micaiah?

Mm, I suspected that most people would say they thought it was for a girl. I didn't know about the shoe brand though, and now two people have mentioned it. I'd probably have to find out just how well-known this shoe brand was if I was planning to use Aviya. Sascha is nice, and so is Micaiah. Micaiah belongs to a bundle of names that I love: Moredcai, Morcant, Malakai, Micah, Mihai...Thankyou (:

I prefer a simpler Avi. Aviya is decidedly femnine in my mind. That's because Avia was one of my top girls names many years ago. Not that I have a problem with that, I love feminine names on boys. You may like Sascha.

I think I'd like Avi too, if it wasn't for the author. I can't bear those books he writes. And, I do like Sascha, though I prefer Sasha.Thankyou (:

Quite pretty...but on a girl. I would never have guessed it was a boys' name. Abijah seems much more masculine, though I can't say I like that either. Some ideas:
Avi
Jonah
Josiah
Luca
Zachariah
Hosea (ho-ZAY-ah)
Elijah
Asa
Micah
Isaiah

Mm, I'm don't like Abijah much. I guessed that most people would say it sounds like it should be for a girl, though I can't see it myself. Your ideas are excellent. Many of them (Luca, Elijah, Asa, Micah) are favourite of mine already. Thank you (:

To me it sounds like a female name, but that's only secondary to the fact that it sounds like Avia, the shoe brand.

There's a brand called Avia? Damn... I didn't know.

It's new to me, but I like it, and -a names on men in general. I've known quite a few people with them (including an ex and my husband's boss) so they don't seem strange to me, though I'd be unlikely to use a foreign name myself.
Akiva, Akira, Alyosha & Attila come to mind as similar names.
Béla, Dima, Dara, Derya, Sacha / Sasha, Shiva, Takuya, Tatsuya, Yuuta & Yura are good too.

I've known a few people with them as well, and in my own language -a endings aren't strictly feminine. But most English speakers who I talk with seem to think that any name that ends in A sounds like a girls' name, which can make things kind of difficult. Alyosha and Yura are both new to me, and I really like them. Dara, Derya, and Sasha are favourites of mine. Thankyou!
