Help[Opinions] Emily
Hi, my name's Emily and I was wondering what other people think of my name. I hate the name Emily because it's so popular I think it's become a naming trend. I'm very seriously considering changing it (Possibly to Emiliana, because I'm Italian and I find this name beautiful and unique)but first I wanted to get some second opinions. What do you guys think. I've talked about it with my family and they're okay with it.

I have a few things to say:
I like the name Emily... So pretty and fun-sounding! I like it most in the middle name spot, though. But, I do understand the frustration in having a "trendy" name. I wouldn't like it either! Of course, my name is Braelyn, so I have different problems to deal with- like people calling me "Bray" (like a donkey sound, ugh) and "Bray-leen"
That leads me into something else: Everyone has something wrong with your name, it's not just you and you alone! It's too popular, it's too old-fashioned, it's too ugly, it's too uncommon, bla bla bla... I wouldn't worry about it!
Though I LOVE the name Emiliana, I don't think you should change your name. That's what your parents chose for you, because they loved it. And no one is going to judge you by your name- Would you ever go up to someone, ask there name, and then think: "Oh, her name is Blashkie, she must be wierd". Of course not! I just think that your name is yours, and you should be proud. I don't like mine either, so I hand you my sympathy! Lol!
All in all... I like Emily, I love Emiliana, but I don't think you should change your name.

I personally love the name Emily. It is my favorite girl name. Although it is very popular , I dont think you should change you name because I'm guessing you are older so popularity really shouldn't effect or be an issue for you.

I love the name Emily. Yes, it's popular, but be grateful your parents gave you such an energetic, happy sounding classic. It will serve you well throughout your life. Emily Dickinson, Emily Bronte -- they sound as fresh today as when they were born almost two hundred years ago.
We all go through phases of wondering what it would be like to have another name. I suppose I was lucky as a Catholic teenager, I got to choose a confirmation name. Yes, that was fun.
But as an attorney I have to caution you to think before you leap. Birth records, medical records, school transcripts, not to mention social security numbers, bank accounts, credit reports etc. Do you really want to go through and change all that? When I got married I kept my maiden name. Not because of any feminist zeal, but the prospect of doing it right was daunting. I've seen what can go wrong.
Mull it over for a while. Give it a year. If you still feel like doing it then, then you can go to court and change it legally. I hope you'll learn to love the name Emily, though. It really is a great name.
P.S. How about keeping Emily as your legal name, but using a different nn? Mia or Mimi would be sweet.

Be proud of whom you share your namesake with--Emily Brontë, Emily Dickinson. If you don't like Emily, how about your middle name? Would you rather be called by it? Mimi, Emmy, Emlyn and Mia are all great nicknames to use.
I consider myself fortunate in the name department. My first name has many opportunities as far as nicknames go, plus I have two middle names and a Hebrew name to fall back on, lol.

Emily is popular, but it's not a trend. It's been popular for ages. I think it's a pretty name, but I can sympathize with wanting a name that's less popular. If it's something that you really want to do, and your family supports you, go for it. Emiliana is a beautiful name. I would suggest using the name for a while though before you make it official, just to make sure it really suits you.
Sometimes I just feel like smacking people with the dictionary, just to see if they absorb any intelligence through osmosis.

I don't think you should.
I'm not sure how old you are, but I'm assuming that you are old enough to have an identity because you are old enough to be on the internet and have such a strong opinion of your name. But regardless, I will say this, Emily is not just what your name is, it's who you are. I believe that names play a huge roll in our personalities. People who know you, know Emily, and all that goes with that name.
For me, my niece is Emily and it fits her perfect, even though it is so trendy. She is fun and loving and mischievious and has a personality all her own, she's only 2. I can't imagine her having any other name.

I like Emily. It's really popular, true, but it's still a very pretty name with a lot of history. I recommend just keeping it. It's already yours. :-)

Emily is quite common and I never truly liked it myself. The nn Em I have adored though. As far as Emiliana, I would prefer Emily. I am not the best at pn but I clicked the link just for a clue on how it would be pn.
I have a really common name too, Kristina. I went to elementary with one or two, so I didnt think I had a popular name until I got to jr high, where about 8 elementary schools came together...and I was swimming in a Kristina-Christina-Christy-Kristi-Kristin-Krista ocean. No matter what nn I went with, I was with at least 2 or 3 others. And I couldnt go with Kris because Christopher was really popular with the guys as well. Which is why I tend to stay away from Chris- or Kris- names now. Anyway, I dont like the popularity of my name, but the key is to find a variation of your name for a nn that no one else uses and go with that, or go by your mn. Speaking of which, if your mn is better, how does it sound as the fn? ______ Emily, just a suggestion.
