[Opinions] Taron/Taran
I recently noted Taron Egerton in the Kingsman: The Secret Service film and was intrigued by the name. I understand it derives from Taran, a Welsh masculine name meaning "thunder." Thoughts on Taron and Taran?

If I met a Taran I'd expect him to be a horse. :) The handful of uses I could find for it in Wales are all in the less Welsh-speaking areas and all seem to date from after the publication of Lloyd Alexander's book, which I haven't read. Taron isn't awful, but it's too much like Darren for me and sounds a bit made up. NMS.

This always sounded like a fantasy name to me. I have never read the Lloyd Alexander books, but I am guessing that's where I got it from.

It's okay. I like it more than Terrence or Aaron, both of which it reminds me of. I used to know a Taryn.

How is Taron E's name pronounced?
I say Taran "TAHR-ən" and like Cynthiana, I've liked it since reading the Lloyd Alexander books (in which it is at least quasi-Welsh).
I sort of wish it were spelled differently, because the pronunciation isn't all that clear to me - it could be TAIR-ən like Taryn.
I like the Taran spelling more than Taron. Taron reminds me too much of Aaron.
I like Tarn even more - I met a person with that name. It's not a related name but sounds similar.

I don't like Taron, I want to emphasize the second syllable when I look at it. Taran is better. I think the meaning is pretty neat and the pronunciation more intuitive. I do get a trendy vibe from it where I think in the US it would be just another on trend name in class even if that was the only kid with the name. In Britain or another English speaking country I'm not sure if that issue would apply.

I love Taran and have liked it ever since I read 'The Chronicles of Prydain'. I prefer it to Taron.

I had a co-worker named Taryn until recently when she quit.I don't like it because it makes me think of the word "talon".
