[Opinions] George
I recently read a book which featured:
George "Old George"
- his son, George "Young George"
- his bastard son, George "Hazel"
- his grandson, George "Chaz"
- his granddaghter, Georgiana.
Now I know it's traditional to name sons after fathers, but, in your opinion, when's enough, enough?
"Find what you love, and let it kill you." Charles Bukowski

Eh DH's family has like 10 generations of James, for real. This seems pittling in comparison.
It's not something i would do myself, but Juniors don't bother me nearly as much as creatively spelled trendy names.

Named all his sons after himself and daughter Georgetta

Old George and a grandson or granddaughter (preferably Georgina rather than the fancied-up Georgiana) would be fine by me. Not knowing the book, I'd have to guess that Old George was a raving egomaniac with a bunch of browbeaten offspring.
Of course, the author must have been making a point! And if Old George had been Old Robert or Old William, things would have been so much easier, nickname-wise.

I'd draw the line at once a generation, although I think even that lacks originality.
I had a great grandfather named Stephen.
-his son, my grandfather, was Stephen, Jr.
-his son, my uncle, was Stephen III "Steve"
-his nephew, my cousin, was Stephen "Stevie"
...and another cousin was named Stephanie
It's needlessly confusing imo. Names are supposed to differentiate one person from the next, so it just seems pointless to use the same name so many times in the same family, especially in the same generation.

Oh god naming kids after yourself is so selfish and annoying. At least have a grandkids named after you don't name a kid after yourself.
I'm curious what book it is, it sounds amusing. ...Hazel on a boy is really interesting.
I think that naming tradition is really odd. I'm glad I'm not a boy and not a Jr., it just seems so prideful to carry on a name like that, even if it is a tradition.
My father is actually named after his father but they twisted it up, My grandfather is Dominic Anthony and my father is Anthony Dominic. I always thought that was kind of funny.
