[Opinions] Ciel
I have a betta fish named Ciel which my mother has gotten into the weird habit of referring to as my son/her grandson and the name has grown on me because of it. What do you think of Ciel for a boy and/or as a nickname for Cassiel?

I quite like it as a nickname for Cassiel! Not entirely sure about using it as a name by itself.

I immediately think of Ciel from Black Butler, an anime that I really hate, but the name itself isn't bad. I like Ciel better on its own, not as a nickname. Despite the fact that the database lists it as feminine, I can only picture it on a boy.

I don't really care for it, but I think it is a cool nickname for Cassiel - which I also don't care for, but could appreciate for someone else.
I would worry that Ciel would start to sound like "seal" in a non-French-speaking community.

It's okay, but I think it sounds too much like seal.
If it's see-ELL then it sounds too much like a girl name. At least, where I live, I think it would.
I'd rather call a Cassiel, Cass or Cas. Ciel would seem artificial to me.

It's a nice word and an OK nn for Cassiel (which I like), but my first association would be "Oh, you like the manga Black Butler."

It's not awful but it doesn't hugely appeal to me, it's just a word. The sound is nice. Ciel would be fine for a boy, it's a nature name so I'd say it's unisex. I am alright with nicknames that are a stretch, Tom for Bartholomew for example but Ciel doesn't really make sense as a nickname for Cassiel to me. The C sounds are completely different.

I think Ciel is nice on its own, as for a nickname for Cassiel I prefer "Cass".
