Not a fan of the books, the movie, or the name.

It reminds me of the character by this name from Outlander. I listened to the first Outlander book on take, and the entire time I thought the narrator was saying "Murder" with a accent. I don't like the sound. It's not even remotely feminine to me (as others have said), "knowing" the character by this name. I think it would sound awkward on an American, but could work in Scotland or Ireland (maybe?).

Very rough sounding, sandpaper-y, weathered. Makes me think of a wise, old sea captain. It doesn't sound like a feminine name at all to me... it actually sounds like really really masculine... I think.

I love the meaning/s! And overall I like the name quite a lot it's just nms because it's so masculine.

Sounds rough and exotic. It'd be very odd around here, but not unlikable. The only problem is that it sounds a little bit like murder. That lends it some darkness, I think.

I wish it was feminine! Awesome name.

It gives me a thick, sticky, gloopy impression like a very bad cold or a lava lamp. So I would leave it to the Irish.

do you live in an area where this name is common or at least people would know how to say it without being told? If not I wouldn't use it. Also it says it's masculine but if I hadn't clicked on the name I would have thought it was for a girl.

I like it in theory. It has a strong sound and an elder wise-man vibe. Sounds overall like a likable dude.

My only concern would be, in my American accent, would I really pronounce it "MUR-tah" every time? or would I lazily resort to "MUR-dah" which doesn't sound nearly as nice and may cause confusion? Probably the latter ("ladder"). Shame.

Seems like it would be a female name. Reminds of Murna and Myrtle.
