Even though I recognised the derivation immediately, Marcantony just looks like "Marc and Tony" to me.
I do think that as one word Marcantony is a mix of pretentious and ignorant.
Marc Antony looks much better but honestly I think it's also still pretentious. Which is fine, if that's what you look for in a name!

and the namesake in question met a sticky end, personally I'm not sure I'd want to name a child after him.
