[Opinions] Ashtrid?
A friend from high school recently named her daughter Ashtrid. I'm guessing she liked the name Astrid, but wanted to use the nickname Ash.Anyway, what do you think? My initial reaction was horror, and it hasn't changed much since then!

Sounds like a drunken pronunciation of lovely Astrid.

Oh no! I love Astrid so very much and this is just bizarre.

I was hoping the speaker had a lisp. Astrid is okay- some of the names that were horrible when I was a kid are growing on me for some reason. (Ingrid, Agatha, Agnes for example) But Ashtrid is putrid.

It's like they wanted Astrid but were worried about it being shortened to ass.

Reminds me of ASHTRAY. It also makes me think of some of these super contrived naming trends that been happening the last few years. I much prefer Astrid.

I like Astrid better. It makes me think of an ash tray.

Yes, exactly my thought too. :) Sounds awful.

It's Astrid with its false teeth out :/ Awful!

Ha! My first impression was of someone who'd had a little too much (or maybe a lot) to drink trying to pronounce Astrid!

Personally think Astrid is an ok name but Ashtrid is not really nice

terribleIt sounds like a drunk trying to say Astrid, or ashtray.

It doesn't look great, but out loud I don't think it sounds too much different from Astrid out loud. I'm not a fan though; Astrid is so much better.

Hi !!!Ashtrid?
It is the first time I hear this name.So..I don't like this but I don't know..In USA and other countries is quite normal to create a new 'modern name'. Isn't it true? But in my mind Ashtrid only sounds like a bad pronounce of Astrid...Byeeeeee

I share your horror! Maybe she'll see sense and drop the h before it's too late.

So is it supposed to be pronounce Ash-trid? that's awful! She could have used "Ash" anyway as a nn. Astrid is nice.
