As a middle name, no. As a first name, it's nice but definitely more dated than Maria, but seems much fresher than Mary.

Not to me. Marie too classic to ever be old fashioned, I think. It's being used by every generation across centuries. But while that saved it from being old fashioned it does, however, make it seem pretty uninspired. I prefer the Welsh/Finnish variation Mari (MAH-ree) or the Scottish Mairi (also said MAH-ree, but if you wanted a more fashionable spelling without looking like an idiot, this one is good).
