[Opinions] Smith

In one of Leslie Dunkling's books he reports that there were a few 19th-century cases of Smith being given as a fn to boys whose ln was ... Smith. He could only imagine, he said, that the parents reasoned that a common ln like Smith demanded an uncommon fn, like Smith!
I'd be very surprised to meet a Smith, and especially a Smith Smith, but it's fashionable to use lns as fns, and occupation names are also trending, so it ticks two boxes right away. Let's hope it's a family ln!

It just sounds too weird as a first name. Maybe it's because it is such a common surname.
I don't mind it.
I can't but help of my best friend growing up Dianah Smith. It's too weird

I never understood why anyone would think this is a good name. It's like calling your kid "random surname"
I'm not very fond of surnames as first names (especially not for girls) and Smith isn't very appealing. Mostly because it's such a common surname, I guess.
I actually don't mind it. It's my mothers maiden name and therefore was my gran 's married name, so those factors appeal to me. I have heard it used as a fn before, so it doesn't seem really odd.
I don't think Smith transitions well into a given name.
It's very SATC, but I'll admit... I like it.
I think it's a bit weird but more awesome and adorable and I just can't stop myself from like surnames as first names. Sigh. I've tried and it's a lost cause. :)
I know a brand new little guy names Brooks. Also awesome.

I don't like it, mainly for the same reason I don't like Archer, Carter, Cooper, or Mason: it's an occupation (also a surname) that you've now named a person. I used to be fond of Hunter, but I don't even like that name anymore... though that's more to do with the sociopath Hunter Moore than the fact that "hunter" is an occupation.
Hi !!!
Yes..It is strange.
But it has a strong appeal for me.

I saw it in a magazine once and posted about it then. I kind of like it, it's surprising.
