[Opinions] Valor or Valour
I've been thinking that instead of "valerie," I would name my daughter Valor or Valour. I think it's fantastic but everyone else hates it! What do you guys think? Also, which spelling do you prefer?

Well thanks, guys, this settles it. The only reasons people have for disliking it are sexist reasons. (well, that and the word velour which I'll need to look up.) I completely disagree with the idea that the concept of valor applies more to boys than girls. I definitely believe in giving my girl a strong name that means something, and it doesn't need a bunch of extra vowels on the end to soften it up.Thanks for the help!
Valor / Valour is great, but definitely only for a boy and generally I prefer it for a mn. Either spelling works, but I probably prefer Valor. Valor / Valour is just too strong and masculine for a girl imo. What about Valencia, Vanessa, Veronica or Victoria instead?
I kike Valour (this spelling since I'm British and don't really do Amercanised spellings), but I prefer it for a boy, and probably more as a middle. But I guess it could work for a girl; it pretty much sounds like it ends in a (when I say it anyway) which is the ending of so many girls names. It has a good meaning behind it, so that's a plus. Maybe you'd like Valencia as an alternative to Valerie since they have the same meaning.
I prefer the spelling Valor because Valour looks too much like velour.
If used as a name, I do prefer it for a girl. IMO it'd sound cliche for a boy yet might be refreshing to hear used for a girl.
But I dislike the sound of it.

Valour is too visually similar to velour. I think Valor is okay, though it strikes me as a more masculine visual (sound could go either way). I tend to relegate most less conventional virtue names to middle name status personally. I prefer Valerie, to be honest, but the names give a completely different feel. I really don't see one as alternative to the other.
Valour
I like Valor, but for a girl I think it should be a nickname...there are other options than Valerie. Valeria or Valentina?
I personally prefer Valor, but I think whichever you use ultimately depends on whether you live in the U.S. or in a country that uses British spellings.

I think it is a bit harsh. Valour looks prettier to me. I wonder if you like Vesper or Valkyrie?
I like Valor as a man's name. On a woman, I think it's too on-the-nose. It's almost ok - it's almost like Rebel, which IMO is fine for a woman - but because of the chivalric, knightly, slightly violent (military medals for valor in battle?) image I have of the word valor, I think it comes across too gendery and makes too much statement. YMMV, I don't hate it, I don't think it's radically unusable. But that's why it doesn't appeal to me.
I prefer the spelling Valor for a man, as I live in the US and that's how the word is spelled. Valour would seem pretentious on an American. However for a woman, the name seems flakey enough that I think Valour would make it look better.

I'm not sure if I like it... I don't hate it. I prefer Valour much in the way I prefer Honour to Honor.
