Was just contemplating Ernestine earlier and came around to the amputated, Nestine.... Wdyt? Could it work on its own? How do you like it?

I don't like Nestine by itself, but I think it'd be okay as a NN for Ernestine.
I dislike the sound of Aya and Beverly.
I'm fond of Maple. IMO it's like a nature version of Mabel.
Teo "TAY-o" - I don't even understand why that would be weird. The only Teo I know is a white American kid. It seems like a multicultural name to me.

Nestine is weirdly appealing to me but it sounds so sterile, there's no crunch or fluffiness or melody, it's just flat. Does that make sense? I like it because of the 'Nest-' part though... I just like the word 'nest' for some reason.
I really like Aya even though it automatically sounds like an exclamation to me. It sounds strong in a childish way. Like, I picture a little girl who stands up for herself and maybe kicks dirt at playground bullies.
I enjoy the sound of Beverly but it's too old imo. Even though the sound itself isn't old (it's pretty youthful and spark-y sounding actually), it just gives off old vibes.
Maple sounds too much like a nickname to me 'cause it actually was my nickname in high school. But I think it's entirely usable as a name, it's just like Mabel but 1000x cuter. Probably OTT cute, but I never mind OTT names.
Teo is sweet sounding, I love it. I bet everyone would call the kid TEE-o though (unless he lives in a predominantly Hispanic area)... which is also cute. I don't know if it would be odd on a white kid... it's not odd to me but it's bound to weird to other people, I guess.

nestine: Come on. This sounds like some kind of powdered drink mix, like Ovaltine and Nestle.

Beverly: It's all right, but very much a grandmother name.
Maple: You can probably get maple-flavored Nestine.

Nestine reminds me of "nesting instincts". I don't like it. I think it's unattractive.
Beverly has a soft spot in my heart, and I'm not sure why. I never met anyone with the name and it's horribly dated, but I think it's bright and friendly and adorable. I kind of want it to make a comeback. I don't care for the others at all.

It's ... not bad.
Honestly, I loved it at first. The whole look of it is rather cool and the sound appeals to my personal tastes.
The longer I looked at it and said it in my head, the less I liked the 'st' in the middle. It makes the name almost fuddy-duddy (which is why I probably liked it right away!). Definitely an old and dusty vibe.
So, I think it usable, but bold. It's not going to fit in with trends today, but it's not a terrible name.
If used in honor of an Ernestine, or as a nickname for one - it's pretty awesome.
Aya - Not a fan. "I uh" don't know what else to say about it.
Beverly would be hipster cool if I didn't happen to know so many that ruined the character of the name for me. Bev is definitely a modern sound, but would be cooler on a boy today imo (not that I would personally do that!).
Maple is adorable. But, I prefer it for cutesy characters in books rather than real life. Like Petunia, Daisy or Bee.
