[Opinions] Ebenezer
Has Ebenezer been ruined by Scrooge or is it still usable? Eben got short.

I would never use Ebenezer because that is now and forever Scrooge.Eben on the other hand? I freaking LOVE it. One of my favorite boy names. The only thing I don't like about it is it being confused with Evan, depending on accents. But I really like it and think it's handsome... I didn't even know it was a name though until I read 30 Days of Night years ago, where one of the main characters is named Eben lol

There's something about Ebenezer I've always liked but, at the same time, I think it's kinda goofy. I don't even think of Scrooge first; I think of Ebenezer Baptist Church. I'm sure for a lot of people, it's forever associated with Scrooge and, therefore, ruined. Not to me though. Also, Eben makes me think of someone trying to say Evan.

Not usable.

I don't think it 'ruined' because Biblically it does carry a positive connotation, "rock," something symbolizing unwavering faith. While I'd enjoying seeing young Ebenezer (how daring), I myself would opt for Eben only.

I think it has somewhat, unfortunately. But it's such a great name, and I love Eben for short. I never would've liked it so much until I met a little Ebenezer once. He also went by Eben.

I immediately think of Ebenezer Scrooge when I see the name. I'd avoid it.It sounds like a name that the Puritans would use, considering this was one of the weird Biblical names that they used.

I'd say it has been totally associated with Scrooge, and I'd even go farther and say Dickens picked it for Scrooge's first name at least partly because it was already not a name people were using. He often used strange or silly names for characters.
Eben isn't too bad, but it's likely to just sound like Evan with a fat lip.
