I really am not a fan of Fred at all. But if I had too, I would pick Fredric for a boy or Winifred for a girl.

Frederick is the longer version that I like best, but I actually much, much prefer just Fred. Frederica ("freh-DREE-kuh")/ Freda is a family name for me. I used it for my first cat. It has very, very deep roots in my heart. There can be no other Fred name for a girl to match it. Frederica Louisa, Frederica Sophie or Frederica Inez / Ines. Fritzi would make a cute nn for a girl.

I like it best for Winifred and Frederica, but I also like Wilfred, Frederick, and Alfred.

My dream is to one day use Ferdinand "Freddie" but I don't think it'll happen. My dad's name is Frederick and he hates it, thinks it's the worst name ever, and goes by Rick. I love it and would love to pass it on, but probably won't just because my dad truly hates any "Fred" name so much, and it would kind of be the opposite of honoring at that point. =P

My dad's name is Frederick Peter and my grandfather/great-grandfather were named Frederick George. I think they're all great!

For me the name Fred is a joke. It's got a dull flat sound; it's clunky and old. Bob has a similar vibe.

Frederic. I prefer it without the k; I had a relative with it spelt that way, nice old retired legal dude with lots of good stories. I would probably team it with some dull-but-sturdy family name, but for some reason Frederic August just popped into my head, perhaps because you've mentioned it before? I like it.
Fred is fine, it's comfortable and friendly.

Other Freds:
I kind of like Manfred and Winfred, but I'm not sure they'd be great names to have if you were an actual boy.
Alfred I prefer in full, but Fred for it might be a nice way of avoiding Alfie which is tooth-gratingly awful imo.
Wilfred is handsome, but also a bit limp somehow. Wilting Wilfred.
