[Opinions] Cabrini
I met a little girl named Cabrini today. As a typical name freak, on hearing a new name I done a bit of research and all I have really found is that its an Italian surname with one famous bearer being Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850–1917) who was a nun and the first American citizen to be proclaimed saint by Roman Catholic church.Would love to know why the parents chose this name, especially as she is 4th out of 6 in the family and her siblings all have more common ones - Olivia, Kevin, Lucy, Eamon and Sean.

Maybe they're Catholic and all of the children have saints names in the middle but Cabrini is the only one who uses it exclusively?

Yeah, I'd ask about that one. I'd be just that curious because it's pretty odd with the other names.

Maybe she was born on the saint's feast day? Or maybe someone else in the family was, and she's named after her.

My first association is Cabrini-Green, a notorious housing project in Chicago that was fully demolished about five years ago. From wikipedia: "Over the years, crime, gang violence and neglect created deplorable living conditions for the residents, and 'Cabrini–Green' became synonymous with the problems associated with public housing in the United States." Now it's supposedly "mixed-income," with all kinds of gentrification and development planned or ongoing; it's probably also worth mentioning that it's surrounded by some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Chicago.Based on the other names in the sibset, I'm guessing this family is not from the US, so the people this girl is interacting with on a daily basis probably don't have that association. I, however, live in Chicago and can't get past it.

Yuck. It sounds like a cabin or an Italian sandwich. I'd have a cabrini, a panini and a grissini and then I'll put on my bikini.

If I were to guess I would say it is an honoring name after a relative with the Cabrini surname.

I'm assuming they're Catholic. Her brothers have very Irish names, so Irish Catholic?
The Cabrini Green is/was a notorious Chicago housing project named after Mother Cabrini. I really can't see anybody naming their kid after them specifically if they actually had experience with the place.
