[Opinions] Svenja
Hi !!!I heard it in a movie...It is a Swedish name I guess...It could be a feminine of Sven (which means boy) so it could be simply 'girl'?Or it could mean 'swan' from German...Its pronounciation is similar to Sonja..same ennding.WDYT about it?Any MN suggestion?ByeeeeeeeeeeAlvise Anastasia Angelica Antonietta Basilio Bianca Cassandra Celeste Dante Ester Eulalia Fiammetta Furio Ginevra Isidoro Leonardo Luna Mara Margherita Mina Miriana Morgana Niccolò Orlando Rossella Selene Serafina Stella Valentino Vanessa Veronica

It's not Swedish, I've never heard it here. The Swedish word for girl is flicka. I think Svenja sounds too close to "svärja", an old Swedish word for swearing (svära is the word we usually use nowadays).
Sven is an old traditional word for a young man, but pojke is the modern word for boy.

Ciao Felie, yes, you' re right in thinking, it's the German feminine form of Sven with the Germanic element of svan, meaning swan.
Well, a really nice and cute name, I know some, who called just that.
Others variants are Swenja, Swantje or Swanhild. But my favorite in this category is the Croatian and Serbian Sanja, meaning dream.
(of course good as well the wise Sonja & the noble Sancia) Cari saluti!

I have a friend named Svenja. She pronounces it SVEN-yə. I think it's pretty but not something I'd use.

I like the meaning but I don't think it would work in a country that has English as its primary language.Svenja Isabell
Svenja Katrin
Svenja Alexandrine
Svenja Evelin
Svenja Christiane
Svenja Edith
Svenja Judith - yoo-dit
