Help[Opinions] Clyde
I'm pregnant with my first child and won't find out the gender for another month at the anatomy scan. However my husband and I are already discussing names.
If it's a boy, we're strongly leaning towards Clyde. It's my grandfathers name. He passed away years ago but was a very important person in my life, a strong man with a deep sense of family and adventure. I have so many amazing memories of growing up with him.
So opinions on the name Clyde? I realize it's quite old-fashioned but could it work in 2017?
Middle name will be Louis which is a family name on my husbands side.

Clyde is making a comeback, it is already increasing in the US rankings. So it is in the same trend as Harvey and Walter. Old man names, but with a certain cuddly sound that is making a comeback. It's in the next wave of vintage comeback names and i think it would work fine.
Clyde Louis doesn't have the best flow though. Louis Clyde would sound better. But meaning trumps flow IMO, and if Clyde Louis would be more meaningful for you, that's what you should go with.

Name-wise, just about anything goes, so asking if Clyde could still be a name today isn't very helpful.
For myself, I sure wouldn't want Clyde to be my first name.

I could live with being Bonnie ...
At least it's a compliment. But Clyde sounds like a big, clumsy, messy person who is always causing accidents. Like a clod, only worse.
Bonnie and Clyde would be good names for a pair of dogs or cats.

I knew two liver-and-white Dalmatians named Bonnie and Clyde! You're right - it suited them perfectly.

I think it'd be great. I personally have too many associations to like it myself, but I think it could work in 2017, for someone in this younger generation. Sure, it could sound nerdy - but it could sound really cool, too.
