Thinking about naming my daughter either Leonie or Leona. Does Leonie sound funny in english? How would you pronounce these 2 names? Thanks!

Like both, but I prefer Leonie. I pronounce it Lay-oh-nee.
I pronounce Leona Lee-oh-na.

Leonie honestly sounds like a nickname. Leona reminds me of Leona Helmsley. How about Leah?

Where I live, Leonie is totally normal and Leona is pretentious and seldom if ever seen.
